Jim Salisbury reports the news on Wednesday the Philadelphia Phillies made a change in their coaching staff by terminating their hitting coach Steve Henderson after four seasons and hiring Matt Stairs to be their new hitting coach. Stairs had no coaching experience in the Major League Baseball level. Stairs played first base, designated hitter and outfielder from 1992-2011 in the Major Leagues with the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals. Stairs will be the only coaching change under the management of Phillies manager Pete Mackanin at the start of the 2017 Major League Baseball season.

I remember Stairs well. He hit a number of pinch hit homers. Always a threat to go deep.

Stairs holds the record for most pinch hitting home runs with 23.
