Fentanyl: The New Curse

When you think of firefighters, you imagine a building or a house on fire that they are responding to, but more calls have been regarding overdoses than fires. In Dallas, 80% are medical responses and there has been a huge uptick in overdoses caused by Fentanyl.
Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid that even taken in small amounts can kill. Just this year alone, they have responded 835 times (that's roughly 3 per day). Fentanyl can stop you from breathing and within 5 to 6 minutes, you can be dead.
The fire rescue units carry with them Narcan; a drug that can reverse the effects of the Fentanyl. That still doesn't mean however that you will survive the event. Fentanyl overdoses have become a societal problem and people need to know just how dangerous this drug is.
Dallas firefighters are trained to fight flames and save lives. Now, they're responding to more drug overdose calls than fires.

Argh! Opiods in general are being abused like there's no tomorrow and I guess for many there literally is no tomorrow. I'm safe, though, because opiates/opiods make me vomit like there's no tomorrow. No thank you.

I think a lot of doctors are at fault too @blitzfrick . Mention the word 'pain' and they're reaching for the script pad.
