Day 60
Proverbs 12:10
Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regards the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
You’ve seen a lot of animal cruelty stories in the news and you know how it makes you feel when you hear about them. You would never treat your animals the way you’ve seen and heard some people treat theirs and you wonder what goes through the minds of such people who have animals only to train them for cruel sports or to keep them caged or worse all the time. Yet it happens every day, and even when those people are nice to their animals, just one look at the animal will tell you a different story as fear lurks in their eyes. However, a person who cares about his animals and treats them with respect and love, will also show their masters the same and will have a nice disposition about them.
Man can be the same towards people. Slavery has been part of humanity since the beginning. Some masters treat their slaves like beasts, and others with respect. We need to remember that all life, animal and human should be treated with respect not cruelty.
Paul admonished us to treat everyone as equals, masters and servants.
Ephesians 6:5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
6 Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man does, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
When we treat others the way we want to be treated, we will gain the respect of those around us.
Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. (KJV)
Solomon treated his servants with the respect he wanted shown to everyone.
1 Kings 10:4 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built,
5 And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her. (KJV)
We all need to take our lessons from Paul, Solomon, and Jesus and treat our animals and those who work for us with the same care we want others to treat us.
Let’s pray: Father, help me show your kindness and compassion to all men and animals and not with disrespect and dishonor causing fear and trembling in my presence, but love and respect. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
