No, not the fireworks {although they were}. We are connected. The End of the World chose not to occur this weekend, and Husband found happiness on Friday night when Vodafone put right the wrongs they had done. I found myself being oddly attracted to Ben Affleck today. Or perhaps it was more a case of being attracted to the character he played in The Accountant. I don't think it was the Bad Boy vibe, although I am pretty nifty at picking them. No, it was more the Quirkily Quteness vibes that appeal. I do find awkwardness to be oddly attractive. Likewise the blunt straightforwardness that is often a trait of autism. And this Ben Affleck character was a walking, talking cliché of a high-functioning autistic. Something about it brings out the mothering instinct that hides deep inside me, that desire to protect and support. There is a vulnerability that is bewitching, and an arrogance that compels. I think as well that - to some extent - I am reminded of myself in some way. But, back to the film. It was rather marvellous. It had subtleties of Dexter, with an overbearing father and an ingrained moral compass. There was quite a bit of gunfire and death. Dogs playing poker. More gunfire. An awkward romantic fluffyness which was destined to end before it could even begin. And it was a good observation of life as an autistic adult, albeit a life which wasn't normal by anybody's standards. I would happily see it again, purely to fall a little bit more in love with The Accountant. I am such a girl!

@poppylicious I'm surrounded by fairly high functioning autistic adults who just don't see it in themselves - they are mostly primary school teachers.

Dexter is a long-running American tellybox show about a serial killer who only kills really bad people. Honestly, these folk with their eight channels!
