The week of 11 November.

It's been a mad ride over this week. I have mostly processed the election in my head, and given the ass-kicking that most of I and my friends received at the hands of Trump's supporters, I fear for the future. With a government that is controlled by the Republicans in the WH and Congress, the bad news is that it is very likely that most reform measures and the gains made in civil rights have a very real chance of going away. The good news is that if anything can't be done, it's all on the Republicans heads. They've got the numbers, so it stands to reason... We will see. What really bothers me is the amount of vile rhetoric and outright hatred that has been stirred up. I fear these days, given the venom unleashed against women, minorities, Muslims, non-Christians, Hispanics, LGBT, and indeed, anyone who isn't white and male. This should bother everyone. And heaven help you if you are disabled or elderly, as there is a very real chance that your Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid may go away for good. After all, to the Republicans, we;re all just a load of moochers. The most fearful thing about this is that this is eerily similar to what Germany was like in the early 1930's and Hitler was chosen as Chancellor and we all damn well know what followed -that.- Yeah, I'm a bit cynical and paranoid about this, but considering that I am liberal, well-educated, Jewish woman, damn right I am scared. So. Sigh. I am slowly building up a stash of funds, and renewing my passport. Fortunately, it's only about four hours to the border if I have to run for it. As my grandmother would put it, "A wise Jew has a passport, a smart Jew carries it with him." And then last night came the news that Leonard Cohen has passed away. This week has really sucked.

No kidding. Also the misogynits, anti-LGBTQs, xenophobes and all the rest of the creatures that lurk under rocks. It's very depressing, and I do fear that the US will be set back about 75 years.
