The Oakland Athletics on Saturday have traded their third baseman Danny Valencia to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league right handed pitcher Paul Blackburn according to the reports from Jeff Passan and Greg Johns. Valencia can become a free agent at the end of the 2017 Major League Baseball season which may have a reason to trade him to the Mariners in exchange for Blackburn who will likely spend the 2017 baseball season in the Athletics minor league system. Valencia will be able to assist the Mariners since he can play all four infield positions and three outfield positions in 2017. Valencia will likely be sharing third base duties with Kyle Seager next baseball season on a platoon basis since Valencia will be playing against the left handed pitchers of the opposing team.

Valencia had gotten into an altercation with Billy Butler during the season and wore out his welcome in Oakland.

The Athletics do not like locker room cancers.
