This week’s poetry challenge set by @Jessicalynnt has a distinct Dr Seuss theme incorporating the words cat, hat, fat, rat, and bat Poem – Cat Bat Hat Rat Diet mice bred for fat feral cat food Rat laughs at cat – how terribly rude Poor cat doesn’t want to be so thin Though it makes it easier for him to get into a bin In pursuit of real food, like left-over stewed Steak, and he can make a quick break Through the fence when dogs give chase Like a bat out of Hell, but feeding his face Fattens the cat up again So he is soon back on good old fashioned plain Undoctored mice, untouched by the man in the hat (what a pratt) the big black bowler hat Marked Ministry Of Mice – his policies are not so nice So I wouldn’t jeer at cat, Mr Rat, After all, you’re just a bigger mouse are you not? Maybe you, cat and perhaps a bat should have got Together to fight the Ministry, Put and end to the misery They inflict on mousekind everywhere Torturing and killing mice is where cats come in. Making them extra-slim and thin Is not really where it’s at Making mice smaller is best done by cat Tooth and claw, gnaw, gnaw, gnaw Leave rodents alone, Ministry, Or rats will do what they did once before in your history Oh is your memory and learning really so vague? Think Black Death, also known as Bubonic Plague Stop sticking chemicals in cheese and everything’s groovy Here’s a mouse on your mat without its head Just like that Horse in the Godfather movie Mess with our food again, and you’ll end up dead Signed Cat, Rat, Mouse and Bat We know Bat didn’t get much to do in all of that But he did fly by to have a little chat Mice have rights, cats have claws Rats have fleas that should give you paws For thought because you ought To know we outnumber you Oh I can assure you, that it’s true Cat, Rat, Mouse and Bat We’ll sign off now – quite enough of that! Meow, squeak, squeal. Hungry now, off for a meal Oh, Mouse, come here would you? I wonder where he’s run off to. Arthur Chappell

that was really good! The flow was different to be sure, but once I got into it I think it worked perfectly. Well done!
