Since the Raiders are my favorite NFL team, it only makes sense to count down my favorite Raiders players. We're at #8, Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Ted Hendricks. Although he played for the Colts and the Packers, Hendricks is best remembered as a Raider. Dude was a machine: Four time Super Bowl champion (one with the Colts,) eight time Pro Bowler, a member of the NFL's 75th Anniversary All Time team, All Decade team in both the 1970's and 1980's. And I left a couple honors out! Hendricks finished with 60.5 Quarterback Sacks, two interceptions, and four safeties, playing in 215 straight games. Hendricks, however, was quite the character. Best story? He once was late for practice, arriving on a horse, wearing a full suit of body armor, complete with jousting lance. (Stats verified on Wikipedia. )
Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Ted Hendricks comes in at number 82 on NFL Films' "The Top 100: NFL's Greatest Players" list produced in 2010. Subscribe...

I love these but have to say hate what the NFL has become. Do still love the personal strories of people trying to make it. To bad told by rich people who still seem to care nothing about the poor.

I also don't like the owners treating the players as nothing more than replaceable pieces of meat. Sure, they are well compensated, but usually short careers.

I would say part of the Raider mystique from the glory years came from "eccentric" characters like Hendricks.

There seems to be a lot of statistics in American sport. I am guessing it is probably the same over here, but I've never looked

Our sports are definitely statistics-driven.

Even coach Flores had to turn away because he was laughing.
