My love of pro football's Oakland Raiders knows no bounds. So it's only fitting that I count down my Favorite Raiders Players. #7 is wide receiver Fred Biletnikoff, a member of both the Pro Football and College Football Hall's of Fame.
Biletnikoff played 14 NFL seasons, all with the Raiders, and one season in Canada. The Fred Biletnikoff Award is annually given to college football's top wideout.
During his career, Biletnikoff won one Super Bowl (he was named MVP.) He was a six-time Pro Bowler, finishing with 589 receptions for 8974 yards and 76 touchdowns.
I got to meet Biletnikoff at a card show years ago. Very nice guy. He seemed touched when I told him he was my dad's favorite player. I got two autographs from him that day, and even a Ken Stabler joke from him.
There aren't many funny stories about him, but, man, was he great.

Sorry -- showing how much I know... what kind of "card" show?

Card shows are where sports player cards are sold. Like the old gum cards. Like Topps cards. Back in the 90s athletes began appearing at such shows.

Fred was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XI with four catches in the win over the Minnesota Vikings on my late dad's birthday in 1977.

I got to meet him. Really nice guy. Met Stabler and Jim Otto too. All very nice to me. It's just unfathomable how many great players played for us over the years.
