I've really been neglecting things here at myLot. I have to catch up with all of @teamfreak16 's girl names and boy names songs while I give my shredder a chance to cool down. Yeah, I'm still going through my aunt's papers. She's nearly 90, so you can imagine that there are a lot of papers to go through!
At any rate, way back when TeamFreak started a series on favorite "girl" songs, or songs with the word "girl" in the title. I joined in and continued with "boy" songs, then last week I finished "woman" songs. There's two more options to go, "man" songs and songs with "man and woman" in the title! Here's the first song on the "man" list.
#10: The Ways to Love a Man - Tammy Wynette
There was something special about Tammy Wynette. No, not that she took all of the keys to the cars from George Jones, forcing him to drive to the liquor store on his riding mower (although that is pretty cool if you think about it), but her soulful approach to singing that really hadn't been utilized in country music. She would sing softly, then all of the sudden she would BELT OUT A LINE THAT WOULD BREAK THE GLASS IN YOUR CAR!!!! then go back to singing softly. I think they call that "dynamics," and man, did she have it!!
This is one of my favorite songs of hers, where she employed that "dynamic" shift to her full advantage. All you have to do is listen to the line "then all at once he's gone" to hear it in all its glory.
I love that steel guitar riff, too. What a classic country song!
The Ways to Love a Man
Written by Tammy Wynette, Glenn Sutton, and Billy Sherrill
Recorded by Tammy Wynette
From The Ways to Love a Man, 1969
Here's a clip of her singing it on Hee Haw, and it's great because she's actually singing it, not lip-syncing it!

Tammy is the real deal. Easily among country's greatest female vocalists.

Even the song she did with The KLF was great.
