The principal reason is to try to artificially inflate earnings. Other reasons may be to troll or harrass other members. If you detect (or even suspect) duplicate accounts, the best thing to do is to send a PM to @GoAskAlice giving the account names you suspect. He will be able to verify that they are, indeed, duplicate accounts and will deal with them appropriately.

Of course it is just for earning a few pennies without the effort of understanding what others say and thinking what to reply. Not the purpose of myLot, I used to do something similar in the past, but not here.
Now I'm mature enough to not "cheat" anymore.
