and Jackson Browne and Elton John, Eagles and music lore, this is a documentary to see for sure. It chronicles the existence of a famous Los Angeles club called Troubadour that opened in 1957 and specialized in booking unknown singer/songwriter acts like some of those named above before they became legendary stars. People who wanted to play there stood in line and got the opportunity. Music critics attended the shows and stars were sometimes born.
Steve Martin even played there with his banjo back before he was a star. All of these musicians and many more that I did not name took part in the narration of this really entertaining film.
I was at this club once or twice when I lived in that area and there was another great club called the Ashgrove too.
I found the film on Netflix, disc only at this time. If you know someone with a subscription, ask them to get it for you. We loved it!

The Eagles' song "The Sad Cafe" is about the Troubadour.

@FourWalls, Here is an amazing montage of photos and that song I found. It is so great. I am glad you mentioned this connection.
I am sure we all know the song and the supergroup that recorded it in 1979. The Troubadour is a club in Los Angeles that served as a cultural center for the new…

Yes there are many available. Anne has never seen a Beatles movie, since she was out of the country in that period of time. We are going to watch "A Hard Day's Night."

@FourWalls mentioned the Eagles and their song Sad Cafe being about the Troubadour and I found a wonderful photo montage that someone put together with the song. See how many artists you can recognize.

@teamfreak16 I looked up the Ashgrove too and so many of the folkies played there. I saw the Chambers Bros and Janis Ian I recall, but can't remember which club. (not on the same night)
