Mike Axisa reports the news on Saturday the Houston Astros have placed on outright waivers their, minor league first baseman Jon Singleton. Singleton, 25, signed a $10 million dollar contract with the Astros five years ago before he even played a game in the Major Leagues. Singleton had a batting average of .171 in 420 plate appearances when he played first base for the Astros during the 2014 and 2015 Major League Baseball seasons. Singleton spent the entire 2016 baseball season playing first base for the Fresno Grizzlies which is their AAA minor league team. It is not likely that Singleton will be picked up by another team in the Major Leagues before the start of the 2017 Major League Baseball season since that team would have pay his remaining $4.5 million dollar salary for the next two seasons. Singleton will be remain a part of the Astros organization but he will be a non roster player on their current 40 man roster. Lesson to be learned by the Astros management is to have prospects earn their huge salary be learning their craft in the minor leagues first.

Singleton was a big bust. He was supposed to be the Astros first baseman of the future.
