It's in it's own category... vegafruit. I tend to think of it as a vegetable, but I believe it's scientifically classified as a fruit. I don't care what you call it, it wouldn't be a pizza without tomato sauce!

it depends on how you consume it. if eaten raw can be a fruit,if cooked with spices it is vegetable.

I am in the same boat. All these days I thought it is vegetable. Many botanists here have given details proving that it is a fruit.

it's the first time i hear that tomatos are called veggies. and looking in this post i was surprised to see that alot of people look at tomatos as a fruit. for me they were always veggies and will always be like that. i eat them with salty food and make salty salads out of them, thing i would never do with a fruit because they are sweet. so i consider fruits as sweet, and tomato a veggie lol.

its a fruit, its on the lists of vegetables because the tomato is not as sweet as those foodstuffs usually called fruits and it is typically served as part of a main course of a meal, as are other vegetables, rather than at dessert. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato#Fruit_or_vegetable.3F

i think its genuine vegetable because its used in cooking and heated during the process a fruit is not meant to be heated before we eat it so i conclude it as a vegetable
