Ryan Devault reports the news on Sunday the Seattle Mariners are one of many teams in the Major Leagues that are interested in signing free agent first baseman and designated hitter Mike Napoli, 34. Napoli signed a one year, $7 million dollar contract with the Cleveland Indians before the start of the 2016 Major League Baseball season. Since his contract expired at the end of the current baseball season, he can enter the free agent market to sign with any team that is willing to sign him to a contract that matches his market value. Despite having a batting average of .239 in over 645 plate appearances during the 2016 Major League Baseball season, the Mariners would like to add him to their roster since he does possess home run hitting power with 34 home runs and 101 runs batted in. The Mariners would have Napoli play first base and designated hitter if he decides to leave Cleveland for the Mariners who ended the 2016 baseball season with a record of 86 wins and 76 losses which placed them in second place in the American League West Division standings nine games behind the Texas Rangers who won the American League West Division with a record of 95 wins and 67 losses.

Napoli would have to play first since Nelson Cruz is the every day DH. If Seattle signs Napoli, that lineup will have plenty of sock.

The Mariners are trying to build up a team with potent bats for 2017.
