I don't know in other countries but it's a bit common in the Philippines that most employees prefer to serve foreigners rather than their fellow countrymen. I don't demand so much, but I guess it's appropriate for people to also allot the same amount of respect especially that we're all paying the same amount of cash to acquire such service/s. I work in the food industry and I treat my customers fairly. I know that foreigners been paying much "tips" as compared to the locals but it feels more fulfilling if we'll not just focus more on money.

Same here, it is best to fake to be a tourist. I remember once in a restaurant, we waited for about an hour for our order while a German family was served within 20 minutes and they came in after us. Here I don't think it is about the tips, it's just about looking good and efficient to foreign eyes. Family comes second if you want to impress guests after all. Oh, and both tables ordered pizza.

We are doing exactly the opposite in France : you have more chances to see a native in a restaurant than a tourist, so good clients are served first.

i think it's both, trying to be a "good host" and for the tip.

I think it is because they are tipped more.
