Charlie Wilmoth reports the news on Wednesday the Cleveland Indians have signed former Seattle Mariners outfielder Daniel Robertson, 31, to a minor league contract. Robertson has played in the Major Leagues with the Texas Rangers in 2014, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2015 and with the Seattle Mariners in 2016. Robertson spent the majority of the 2016 baseball season with the Mariners AAA minor league team the Tacoma Rainiers. Robertson played in nine games for the Mariners in the 2016 Major League Baseball season with a batting average of .263. Robertson opted to become a free agent at the end of the current baseball season. Robertson will be trying out to make the Indians team during spring training in 2017. To make room for Robertson on the Indians roster, the Indians sent utility player Michael Martinez to their AAA minor league team the Columbus Clippers on Wednesday. If the name Michael Martinez rings a bell, he was the last out recorded during the 2016 World Series which the Chicago Cubs won in seven games.
