First of all, I want to join everyone else in wishing my fellow American mylotters a Happy Thanksgiving. To everyone else, I hope you have a fruitful Thursday in whatever you do whether here on mylot or with family or work.
I miss several things from the other site, but at this time I year I miss the ability I used to have on checking a previous post regarding a recipe either I made or margielynn. I decided this year to make cranberry salad/sauce rather than the relish that I've been making the last several years.
Do you think I could find the correct recipe online? After checking the specifics of a handful of them, I turned to other sources. I forget that I have my mom's older Betty Crocker cookbook which I finally did check. It didn't have the recipe I was looking for, but it did show that various ingredients could be added to the main dish. I ended up using that and the directions on the package of cranberries. I need to remember to look there first not last.
Sometimes I've used cranberry or raspberry jello along with the mixture cooked on the stove because my endeavors tend to end up a bit soupy. This time I'm hoping that the addition of a whole apple and orange will help thicken it without using the gelatin. I will have to update this post later to remind myself of the outcome.
For this year, I used one bag which is 12 oz of whole cranberries, one orange and one apple. Those two I chopped up using my food processor. I kept the rind on the orange too.
I cooked the cranberries with 1 cup of stevia and 1 cup of water. The mixture was supposed to only take fifteen minutes to allow the cranberries to pop, but mine took about twice that long. That may be due to me coming back and forth to the computer and cooking it lower than most would.
Once it cooled a bit, I added the chopped apple and orange which I did together and also added chopped walnuts. It then went into the fridge.
(I'm reading this again in 2018 and I've no idea how it turned out or whether it was soupy or not).

I miss Katerina's take on recipes posted by ESL language learners. Those were hilarious. Come to think of it, I just totally miss Katerina's posts.

I'm not sure I ever read her recipe posts before as I don't remember ones that were funny.

@blitzfrick It wasn't only those that copied and pasted recipes that drove it to the ground. I'm sure the plagiarized content didn't help much either. I think more than those though, the owners are the ones that drove it into the ground.

@MarshaMusselman She poked fun at the recipes written by people who were manipulating the system. Remember them? They pretty much drove the site into the ground.

Do you eat homemade cranberry relish or salad in Canada? Cranberry relish is made using a food processor only, whereas the cranberry salad is usually made by cooking it in sugar and water until each berry pops.
I think it's been only in recent years that people will add other ingredients to that mix. They end up looking very similar.
I thought I'd do the cooked version to save me washing my food processor, but realized that I'd need to use it anyway to get the apple and orange chopped small enough. It turned out fine without the use of any gelatin, but I should have used a bit more sugar/stevia.

I know how to check my old post here and didn't think I posted anything about making cranberries, but when doing my tags something did pop up. I just didn't find it in time or see what it was. I think that one was for the recipe with the food processor since that's the one I did last year.
Margielynn did write a bit in the beginning, but has since moved on elsewhere I'm thinking.
