Chances are when you hear “altar” you think about a long table where a mass is recited. In the case of this film, completely different meaning. Instead of the altar being made of wood or marble, a human is used. I saw this on Netflix and finally got so intrigued with the trailer (link below) and the Illuminati connection that I had to watch the whole thing. There aren't any major stars in the film outside of Matthew Modine and I think the expiration date on him being a celebrity came and went in 2002. Warning, there are several movies that have the same name as this one, make sure you're getting the 2014 version. There's nothing new to the plot but there are some huge twists and the ending. I can almost guarantee that you will never be able to guess what happens. That's what happens when you don't listen to the locals or do your own research about the history of a location (as I raise my hand, guilty). Slowly Alec (Modine) starts to change; when Meg uncovers the unholy piece of art under the rug all hell – literally – breaks loose. The four main characters do an absolutely amazing job with their parts. Whether they are having a general conversation or ready to pee their pants in fear, their mannerisms and facial expressions are what make this a must-see. There is blood but it's minimal; this has an R rating on some sites but on Netflix it was listed as NR (not rated). Even if you watch this for one, single scene (when the carpet is pulled up to reveal … no, I won't spoil it). I see some Australia names in there. Hugo Weaving starred in the Matrix Trilogy. He was the man in black.

I'll have to keep my eye out for it.
