I really enjoyed the "Girl on the Train" audiobook, and movie. I listened to the book first, if you can call it that as it was a audiobook, ha ha, but I think that helped me to understand the movie.
The book, and movie are alittle confusing - the story jumps back and forth in time, and two characters look almost identical which adds to the confusion but is a part of the plot of the book.
The movie does get a little gory in a couple of places, which I didn't enjoy, but I did think that the film-makers did a wonderful job of bringing the book to life visually, it was exciting to see that happen. If you like mysteries and do not mind some vilence in your entertainment then you may well enjoy both the book and the movie.

Is this the same guy who wrote The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

No, that book was written by Stieg Larsson.

It's good, but a little hard to follow (by design) - I'll be curious to see what you think.
