Day 84
Proverbs 13:17
Proverbs 13:17 A wicked messenger falls into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
You don’t hear a lot about messengers today with technology able to get information to us in an instant. Yet how reliable is the information you receive with today’s technology? Everything you hear you need to confirm against reliable sources. Reliable sources are at a minimum. When you find a reliable source, you tend to let others know your source as you check and double check the facts.
It was common in Solomon’s day to use messengers, yet even he needed to discern the source of the message. Those he found faithful were ambassadors to the kingdom.
As Christians, you need to discern the ‘truth’ you hear from those who proclaim the Word of God. Three times Paul used the phrase ‘This is a faithful saying’, and each time regarded what Jesus came and did and our role in the body of Christ.
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. (KJV)
1 Timothy 4:9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10 For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 These things command and teach. (KJV)
Titus 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.
3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. (KJV)
When your actions line up with your role in the body of Christ, you too will be a faithful ambassador who can be relied on.
Paul referred to himself as an ambassador one time, but note what he said an ambassador is.
Ephesians 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
(KJV)
Therefore, an ambassador is one who speaks boldly about his or her role in the body of Christ, which is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Are you a faithful ambassador? Can people rely on you to speak the truth about Jesus Christ? Can they open their Bibles and read the truth you proclaim? Or are you a wicked messenger, distorting the gospel of Jesus Christ for your own benefit?
Let’s pray: Father, help me be a faithful ambassador for you, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ with the power and boldness of the Holy Spirit who lives in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
