In my post on things I have done, I mentioned white water canoeing. I did this when in graduate school on a river in Texas. A bunch of us went and we had two people per canoe. In my canoe I was up front. What ended up being the hardest part was the low water dams that were on the river. When you encountered them, you had to go over them and there was a two to three foot drop. There would be standing waves at the bottom. After going over one the waves were particularly bad and we took on water so that the canoe was full. So we had to slide out so we could empty the water out. The water was very cold and I went in over my chest. It completely knocked my breath out. My companion did not go so deep and that did not happen to him. I gestured to him barely was able to say that I had to get to shore. Fortunately it was not far and when we got close, pulling the canoe with us, I was able to stand and catch my breath. We dumped the water out of the canoe and continued on.
