So to balance out the "city" we have to take a trip to the country, right? And before you ask, no, not all of these songs will be country music songs. (Not all the "city" songs will be rock, either.). Here's the first trip to the country on the countdown.
#10: Country. Boy - Ricky Skaggs
I have three, count 'em, three songs named "Country Boy" on my iPod. There's the 1949 Little Jimmy Dickens song about a guy who boasts that "I raise cain on Saturday but I go to church on Sunday." There's the great Johnny Cash song about the guy who "ain't got no shoes" and "don't owe no bills."
The most recent of these is by bluegrass-turned-country-turned back to bluegrass singer Ricky Skaggs. This was pretty much at the apex of his popularity in the mid-80s (I saw him the year after this album came out).
The song is more a vehicle to show off the talents of Skaggs and his band on their various instruments than a real "substantive" song, but that's okay. Skaggs and his band smoke on those various solos, which is part of the fun of the song.

I suppose John Denver will be in the future in this list.

I used to play him on the radio back then, when i'd pull shifts on our sister country station.
