#6 in my Favorite Avalanche Players should need no introduction. All you need to know is the word "legend." I'm talking about defensman Ray Bourque.
Raymond Bourque played for the Colorado Avalanche for just two seasons, after spending 21 years with the Boston Bruins. He is, according to Wikipedia, the all time NHL leader in goals, assists, and points for a defensman.
In his two years with the Av's, he played in 94 games and scored 15 goals. He also won his only Stanley Cup with the team in 2001.
I've been shying away from players that I loved that played only briefly for Colorado, but there is no way Ray Bourque didn't make this countdown.
True story: the Avalanche were losing a playoff game. In the locker room, someone yelled "Who's got next goal?" It was Bourque that said "I got it." And he did, indeed, score the next goal, sparking an Avalanche comeback victory.
I went to a hell of a lot of Avalanche games when I lived in Denver. It was a privilege to watch Raymond Bourque play. We only got to have him for two years, but they were two of the best years of hockey I've ever watched. Thanks for coming to Denver, Ray!
