Verbal Abuse...

I'm feeling a little upset today because a man verbally abused me in the street. It is actually the third time that I've been verbally attacked in the last six months (all by different older men) and I'm starting to ask myself why it is happening. I have discussed it with my family and they think it is happening because I look like a teenager even though I'm in my late thirties. However, now I'm wondering if it is just because I look shy or 'weak'. I do have social anxiety and and these incidents really shake me up. Has anyone else been through anything like this?

Thanks for your comment. I have actually already been through a program with a psychologist a few years ago. It didn't really help me much, I think it is just my personality type to be anxious and shy. I would definitely advise other people to try getting professional help as it might be able to help.

@redurnet Oh alright.Umm I would ask you to do something then.Just think how do you feel when you are around people? Then think whatever you feel is it fair? Why do you feel what you feel? There has to be a reason. Once you know it and found it to be useless you will no longer feel it. Secondly face the fear with someone as in be in social situations more, face people more BUT with someone you trust the most.Because that will help you to have someone to rely on when your anxiety level will be high. This is a slow process But do it trust me it works. But Cadwall stay patient.Because things take time to go away. But don't stop trying.

@shubhu3 Thank you, this has made me think a bit more about my situation and I will try to evaluate how I feel when I'm around people now.

Bullies are horrible and have often been victims themselves and feel humiliated, they then take it out on others to make themselves feel better.... You just have to look at them with pitty because they are obviously in a great deal of emotional pain.... I wouldn't worry yourself with trivial dribble that comes from a Bullies mouth. You are the bigger person to walk away from people who have verbal diorear and mental constipation. Xx keep your head high it doesn't matter what a randomer thinks of you they don't know who you are.

Just how I felt about that guy who said that horrible name out loud and so everyone could hear him. He had placed his shopping basket in the queue and walked off and left it thinking he could stroll back much later one and claim his place in the queue again.

I came across a guy like that a long time ago now he called me a not very nice name because I was in the queue before him and he said he should have been there instead. If you can and its hard to take a deep breath and just walk away if you can. You are worth more than that person and I thought the same about me as he called me that nice name. I thought I am worth much more than you. Give your ego a boost we often need to even if your heart is thumping away inside. It can be done.

Good advice. It feels like a shock in the moment when it happens but I am going to try and still my mind and be positive like this if it ever happens again!

No that's never happened to me. Whatever do they say to you? I suppose ignoring them is the best thing to do.

I have been polite back but it makes me feel angry afterwards that I let them get away with being so cruel and rude. You never know what people will do next though, so I suppose ignoring them or being polite is probably the best thing to do.

What is their problem? Try to keep your head up and leave their vicinity as quickly as you can.
