Recognition of the voice on this ad for Rowse honey made me glance up at the telly at just the right moment. The dulcet tones of Gyles Brandreth do that to some people... (You'll have to watch the 30-second ad to find out!)

I know the voice from a BBC 4 programme but can't remember the name. The voice is very affected, very 'English'.

Yes, you may have heard him on QI or on any of several Radio 4 programs. He has been a feature of British TV, radio and stage for several decades.

@MALUSE Most mellifluous, wouldn't you say? :)

@pgntwo Yes, indeed. I know the word mellifluous of which I'm rather proud. Not one which one encounters frequently. I wonder what the man is like in real life. We once knew an Italian car dealer here in Germany. He was from Sardinia just like my husband. He also had a mellifluous voice but wasn't a nice man at all. The English language has so many words but I can't find any which mean exactly the same as unsympathisch oder fies. That was what the man was. A shocking contrast between his voice and his character.

I don't like honey and I'm not keen on Mr Brandreth, so I shall pass. I may be tempted later by the cheeks, but we shall see. :)

The butt of the joke is about half-way through the clip :)
