Oakland Disaster

The stupidity of it happening at all is amazing to me. If you were to be looking for a place to live, wouldn't you be concerned that there were no sprinklers or fire alarms in the building? Those people who became 'renters' did not have any brain cells sparking. And the so-called 'leaseholder' Derick Ion Almena; who was not an electrician, made attempts to make electrical repairs? Wouldn't it dawn on you that there could be some problems? Not to mention that there were plenty of City Officials that KNEW there were people living there and that the building was not up to code but didn't 'force' the owner Shor Ing (not sure if the spelling is correct), to clear out residents and make the proper repairs? This woman owns several properties just like this one. There are a whole lot of people responsible for the deaths of 36 people.
Investigators are getting closer to the origin of a fire that killed at least 36 people in a converted warehouse in Oakland, California.

The tenants of those warehouse apartments say the rent is much cheaper than what they would get elsewhere.

But it's not worth the possibility of dying over @Kandae11 .

@nanette64 Certainly not. But some people take a gamble with everything - including their life.

Incredible. I heard something about it on the news, but didn't know the whole extent of the situation.

Lots of people are trying DIY repairs, thanks to the internet. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing but certain things should be left to people licensed to do it and should serve only as a guide and information.

I absolutely agree with you @louievill . I've done some household repairs before but you can bet they were never electrical in nature.

It sure didn't look like a place a normal person would live.

It's one thing to cut corners to save money @AbbyGreenhill but not worth dying over.

I knew no one who lived or partied in the building, but I theorize that at least some of the motivation for living there had to do with sky-high rents in safer buildings. Again, just a theory.
