Pearl Harbor Day -
Today is Pearl Harbor Day here in the United States of America. The day is so-named in memory of that day, back on December 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor in what was then USA's headquarters and harbor of its navy's large Pacific Ocean fleet of warships was attacked and decimated by the Japanese navy's aircraft that flew into the attack from their mighty aircraft carrier ships.
That brought Japan and the USA into war with one another and caused the other "axis" countries, mainly Germany and Italy, to declare war on the United States in the following days. World War II was already ongoing since 1939, and it did not cease until 1945.
Our own home is near the Gulf of Mexico, somewhat midway of the country, far away from Hawaii and the Pearl Harbor Memorial area. Even so, we have seabirds that fly overhead on occasion. Today was one of those days.
This morning I awakened to the sounds of sea gulls flying overhead. They often fly inland here when the weather is having a turn toward clouds and storm. Today, they seemed to be flying over to remind me about Pearl Harbor and all of the events of that day and and the warring that followed..
Pearl Harbor is a place and an opening event that should not be and will not be forgotten. It would seem that even the sea birds remember. So, maybe this morning's sea gull was making sure that I, too, would not forget.

@jaboUK - Ms Janet - Pixabay had several winning photos available. I am happy that I remembered two things - no, I am happy that I remembered MORE than two things today, and that three of them were - "Remember Pearl Harbor" and "remember how to make the backgrounds in photos become transparent (the blue sky in the flag picture) and how to add the photo with its transparent background atop another worthy photograph, that of the sea gull flying in front of a sun-struck background. (That Pixabay place is a goldmine of photos, isn't it?
Unfortunately, there was no time left to alter the lighting of the flagpole, but the overall effect was OK even so. I hope that your trip back home was a pleasant journey. -Gus-

So you see those sea gulls on the day the 'Pearl Harbour day" is commemorated or is it that you look up only on that day. Very interesting!!

@allknowing - Always smiling - When something comes into the vision on a special day or on any other kind of day, it arrives with a message. This time, the message was "Never forget Pearl Harbor." Maybe that is because the sea gulls that lived in the wetlands at Pearl Harbor passed those "Do Not Forget" genes on to the sea gulls that followed them in later years. -Gus-
