We are at #1 in my Favorite Avalanche Players series, and that designation belongs to my favorite hockey player, center Peter Forsberg. Peter Forsberg played in the NHL for 19 seasons, and if you count a very short comeback attempt, he played 11 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche. During that time, Forsberg won two Stanley Cups, one Hart Memorial Trophy (regular season MVP,) and one Art Ross Trophy (regular season points leader.) He is in the Hockey Hall of Fame and the IIHF Hall of Fame. He is also on a postage stamp in his native Sweden, and was on the cover of the NHL 98 video game. His #21 hangs from the rafters in the Pepsi Center, where the Avalanche play. Big, strong, and fast, Forsberg played in 544 games for Colorado, scoring 202 goals. My favorite Peter Forsberg moment? He scored a hat trick (three goals) in one period against the Florida Panthers during a Stanley Cup Finals game. (Stats verified by Wikipedia.)
The official video dedicated to Colorado Avalanche great Peter Forsberg in honor of his jersey retirement on October 8, 2011 at Pepsi Center.

I think this guy is still playing. Funny how great hockey players seem to play forever.

He's got a high job with Modo, his first pro hockey team, in Sweden. He does sometimes show up at Avalanche games.

An all time great. Boy, those Avalanche teams that won the cup were loaded with famed players.

They were sinfully loaded. Just like Detroit and Dallas back then.
