The St Louis Cardinals have reached a contract agreement with free agent outfielder Dexter Fowler, 30. Fowler has played in the Major Leagues as an outfielder for the Colorado Rockies from 2008-2013, the Houston Astros in 2014 and the Chicago Cubs from 2015-2016. The terms of the contract were not announced by the Cardinals management. The Cardinals need a center fielder for the team in the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Cardinals center fielder Randal Grichuk will be moved to another outfield position to make room for Fowler who will be the Cardinals center fielder next baseball season. With the addition of Fowler on the Cardinals roster, the rivalry with the defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs will have more bite.

Fowler got his ring and now the big contract he wanted. The strategy of returning to the Cubs last season worked out.

The Cubs versus Cardinals rivalry will be hotter in 2017.

@Deepizzaguy The Cards are still nowhere near the Cubs class at this point.

Happy for the Cubs but Cardinals are my favorite. Solid move for them all though always love a lead off guy who has a better average than Fowler. He does have some pop and speed. Carpenter was not ever going to be the fastest lead off guy.
