The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed former San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins right handed relief pitcher Fernando Rodney, 39, to a one year, $2.75 million dollar contract on Friday. Rodney has pitched in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers (2002-2003, 2005-2009), the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2010-2011), the Tampa Bay Rays, (2012-2013), Seattle Mariners (2014-2015), Chicago Cubs (2015), San Diego Padres (2016) and Miami Marlins (2016). Rodney will be work as the closer for the Diamondbacks in the 2017 Major League Baseball season since the Marlins declined to pick up his option of $4.5 million dollars at the end of the 2016 baseball season due to his earned run average of 5.89 during his time with the team. Hopefully for the sake of the Diamondbacks the Rodney who had an earned run average of 0.31 in over 28 2/3 innings pitched will be the one who closes game for the team next year.

A good cheap pick up and surprised a contender didn't pick him up at that rate.

Good thoughts since I guess the contending teams did not like the Marlins version of Rodney over the Padres lights out version of him.
