HER real name was Mary Ann Evans. She was a British writer who wrote under the pen name of George Eliot, for various reasons. George Eliot is quite famous as author of The Mill on the Floss and Middlemarch.

Yes, these are mentioned in her biography. I've never read any of her writings so I will see if I can find any of them on my next trip to the library.
