Fry's, a branch of Kroger here in the Southwest, is the absolute worst. Every Friday they offer a Free Friday Download you can put on your reward card through their site. Then they never have it. They're always out of stock. I went to get 3 freebies today, each a week old to give everyone a chance to get them and the store to restock, and the shelves were bare. I wanted rice noodles for a recipe and they haven't had that item for 3 months although they keep giving me the same story--they got some in then someone broke the box and they were all destroyed. Something fishy here.. I used to work for Fry's years ago. Lasted a couple of months. I asked for school hours so I could be with my kids and they said sure, after your training. They put me on evenings so I never saw my kids except in the mornings for half an hour. Screw them. I was so mad today I left my cart in the middle of the main store aisle and left. I got in the car and said every bad word I could think of, cursing them for wasting a half hour of my time for nothing. This has happened so often before. So that's it, I'm going to Winco and anything they don't have I'll get at Walmart. I'll write about Winco, too, a bit later. Do you have a store you absolutely hate and if so, why?

i remember fry's.we had them in tucson. that one wasn't too bad comparatively, but the sam's club there sucked. always out of stuff. honestly tho,i hate walmart.i live on an island, and we have a scaled down bastarized version-but they still drove out the mom and pop's.. they treat employees like crap, maybe 3 registers of 12 are open at any given time,it's congested in the aisles and items on "sale" are often substituted with another because they "ran out"..ran out my foot.more like bait and switch..

I hate Walmart, too!! I saw a meme on Facebook that made me laugh. It said "Target--the store for people who will do anything to avoid shopping at Walmart!" Although I don't like Target, either! You're right about the registers, there are never enough opened. They want customers to use the self-checkout as much as possible because those machines don't demand wages or benefits. I know that every business needs to make a profit to keep the doors open but paying the CEO $23.5 MILLION per year is ridiculous when you consider how they pay and treat the employees. That's why I rarely shop there and only in an emergency. I do get my medicine there because otherwise it would not be affordable for me.

That really doesn't sound like the stores I've shopped at, and I've been to at least a dozen of the locations in the Valley within the last few years. Some of the locations definitely are more "miss" than hit, unfortunately, but it seems to vary by day instead of being a consistent thing. In general, I find that the Marketplace stores are a bit nicer, like the one on 67th Ave and Bell in Glendale. There are a couple around Bethany Home and Indian School that seem to be iffy at best, but that could just be because I've been to them relatively late at night. The absolute best one that I've been to has to be the one way out on Daisy Mountain Drive in Anthem. It's one of the Signature stores, and Anthem is one of the more affluent areas, so they have all sorts of nifty stuff that the other stores just don't carry.

Yeah, I used to live in Anthem for a couple years as a renter (a whole 'nother story!) and I know that Fry's. They have to be nice and helpful or they'll be fired, the residents there demand nothing less and frequently a helluva lot more than is humanly possible. The Marketplace stores seem to be a bit better. The one closest to me at Bell and the freeway always seems to have things in stock but is further away. When I am calmer I will probably go there to get what I need. My favorite store, Winco, doesn't carry Happy Eggs and those are the only ones I'll feed my granddaughter (they are free range). I hate going to Walmart for them.

@dragon54u That's the one at 27th and Bell with the solar parasol, isn't it? I like that one, too. I'd be in so much trouble if I still lived in the area... I've found that certain stores have great deals on their markdown produce, so I'd probably end up driving to a bunch of different stores just to see what they had. The one at 19th Ave and Union Hills had an entire rack full of bell peppers and tomatoes in the markdown bags once... I filled my cart for around $12. If one of the Sprouts stores is near you, you might check there for the eggs you like. They have a lot of organic options throughout their stores, and the produce deals are great. Otherwise, I know Safeway has at least one cage free variety, although I don't remember what the brand was.

Fortunatly, the Supermarket I don´t like is as far as the one I like from my home. So I just don´t even think about going there. This supermarket has a weird smell that stops me from buying anything to eat there.

We have some stores like that one that smell strange. There is one thrift store (used clothes, toys, books, etc.) that I absolutely won't go to because the smell, while not horrible, makes me sick to my stomach. Only a few others can smell it. Grocery stores are usually okay but some have food preparation places that sell food and if they use too much garlic or other spice the entire store smells like it.

@dragon54u This store I´m telling you about smells like they have just put a pesticide there. I´m afraid to buy food contaminated by sprays.

Harris Teeter, a recent merge with Kroger. it's a bit different than you though, as I work there... My reasons (or love / hate relationship) has everything to do with the job. But no, I know what you mean about stores that just don't come up to snuff. I went to a Food Lion a few years back, first time I had been in literally years. Their layout was really ridiculous, their whole store was sort of dark, and no one said anything to me. Sort of disappointing that I didn't so much as get a smile from anyone working there.

You'll have to read my post about Winco that I'll be making soon. It's nearly everything a store should be. I've never been to Food Lion. The big chains seem to be taking over a lot of stores. For instance, Albertson's bought out a couple of Safeway stores here. I don't like Albertsons, they are too pricey, but I dislike Safeway even more so that's okay. I just have to remember one store I don't like rather than 2! I'm really not that hard to please, they just try to hard to provoke me!

@dragon54u Albertson's bought out all the Safeway stores in our area, which sucks. They like their stupid "buy 1 get 2 free" gimmick pricing in the meat department, so now we get to pay three times as much as we used to per pound and "save" by getting way more than we actually want or need to buy all at once. Let's not even talk about how they raised all their prices and did away with doubling coupons. A few of the sales end up being decent, but I usually only go there to see what meats they have in the markdown section. They're more generous than Fry's with their discounts on fresh meat, but Fry's has better markdowns on produce so it kind of balances out.

Winco is mostly in west and northwest. My sister just visited and wants one near her in Georgia but they're not there yet. Hope you have one that you like!

@dragon54u I am so sorry about that store and the run around you get. I go to a store that is close to home and has what I like to buy but some of the people and clerks that work there I can do without. It is close and the one I would like to try opens later than I want so I go there
