Time for some hoops now as we are at #9 in my Favorite Lakers Players series, Point Guard Derek Fisher.
Derek Fisher played 18 seasons in the NBA, with a total of 13 of them in two stints with the Lakers. During those years, Fisher won five NBA Championships and, in 2004, was the NBA Shooting Stars Champion. A tough player and leader, Fisher was known for hitting clutch shots. Kobe Bryant has called Fisher his "favorite teammate." Fisher has also served as the President of the NBA Players Association.
As a Laker, Derek Fisher played in 833 games, scoring 7,223 points and dishing out 2,685 assists. And while not all of the following was achieved with the Lakers, upon his retirement following the 2013-14 season, Fisher held NBA career playoff records for most games played (259) and most games won (161.)
It's worth noting that Fisher's daughter suffers from Retinoblastoma. While playing for the Utah Jazz in 2007, he asked the team to release him so that he could play in a city in which she could receive the best care. He returned to the Lakers.
How could you not like this guy?

DFish was the glue on those championship teams. No, he was not a great point guard but he was the guy settling Kobe down and total understanding of Phil's ways.

You are 100% correct. I was bummed when he left, glad when he came back.

@teamfreak16 He was a bust coaching the Knicks and is now during halftime commentary on Laker games. He should be an assistant coach and get the experience he needs.

He had one memorable shot and that was against the Spurs if I'm not mistaken. I'm not really a fan of Fisher.

@teamfreak16 I agree with that. He kept Kobe's ego in check. He was the veteran presence that the Lakers needed in the locker room and on the court.

I thought, as a leader, he was a nice balance for Kobe.
