How would you compare movie-stars of long ago as against the current crop?. Would you say the stars of long ago were better looking, better at their craft, more professional? I have always enjoyed a good old movie - especially the spectacular ones e.g Cleopatra, Spartacus and a host of others. Favorite old stars that come to mind - on the male side are: Rock Hudson, Clark Gable, Yul Brynner , Charlton Heston, Kirk Douglas and Clint Eastwood. On the female side: Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Russel.

Actors aren't as good at their craft as they used to be because they don't have to be..we have special effects to cover the lack talent and makeup and cosmetic surgery to substitute for natural beauty. I particularly like the old silent films they show on TCM every Sunday. They had practically nothing to work with in terms of effects, they could not talk and be heard, so they had to ACT. Likewise, any movie before CGI effects had better actors. I liked the actors before the 70s because glamour was important they always looked so dramatically beautiful, both men and women. Plus, the actors of the past kept their mouths shut about politics so as not to ruin their fan base. They also had morals clauses back then in their contracts so there were very few scandals--at least that the public heard about.

I am amazed at the quality of the old movie actors compared with today's where there is more fluff and little substance

Old movie stars are vastly superior in every way: Bogart, Cagney, James Stewart, Gable, Astaire, Bette Davis, Garland etc.

I think perhaps the acting was extraordinary in the older movies, but I like the technology and realism in today's movies.

I like the old movies for what they brought to the screen which didn't have the technology we have now so we need to take that into account. Some of the plots of old movies were a little corny though the new movies are worse. Depends on the movie I guess

Yes , as you say, it depends on the movie, because you'll find corny plots. in today's movies as well
