Not everyone enjoys Haiku poetry like I do and I usually don’t get many responses, but that’s OK. I came across another notebook today, full of some of my Haiku that I wrote for a writing class back in 2003.
Haiku involves a set pattern. The first line must have exactly FIVE syllables.
The second line must have exactly SEVEN syllables.
The third line must have exactly FIVE syllables.
The idea is to present a “word picture” that is enjoyable to the reader, using very few words. It doesn’t have to rhyme.
Here are a few that I will share with you today.
“Colors burst anew.
Flowers show off their dresses.
Each one different.”
“From where do they come?
All of the earth’s living things?
From a loving God.”
“Sparking in the sun.
Ice slowly begins to melt.
The earth soaks it up.”
Haiku can also rhyme, but it doesn’t have to rhyme.
“The ocean is vast.
Upon it the sun is cast.
What has it amassed?”
Do you enjoy reading Haiku? Have you ever tried writing some of your own? I know there are those on mylot who do write it sometimes.

Yes, because of the strict rule of syllables in Haiku, it is challenging to write, but I do love the challenge.
