Given that a lot of people are traveling for the holidays it's time to look at some cities and states, and even international destinations...via song titles, of course. I'm currently doing rock city titles, coupled with country state name titles. When I finish I'll switch. Yes, there are that many songs with cities and states in the title! Here's the next state. #9: Look At Miss Ohio - Gillian Welch Fear not, you've most likely never heard of her. If you've listened to the bluegrass superstar duo Dailey and Vincent you've heard a couple of her songs. Their breakout song, the gospel song "By the Mark," and the first album classic "Winter's Come and Gone" were both written by Gillian Welch. I cannot begin to detail how much I love this woman and her sidekick, guitarist extraordinaire Dave Rawlings. Their music is a throwback to the early days of country music, but with very modern themes. Here she's singing of a woman who's out to either out to lose her innocence or take a fling before she "settles down." The repeated line of "I wanna do right, but not right now" sounds like it belongs in a loud metal song, not a quiet country tune. And that's part of her greatness. Rawlings' marvelous guitar work and one-of-a-kind style don't hurt, either. Look At Miss Ohio Written by Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings Recorded by Gillian Welch From Soul Journey, 2003 One of the best memories at a concert was the entire audience singing along with the chorus of this song when I saw her last year:

You are right. I never heard of her. The state can also be represented by Back in Ohio from the Pretenders which I know is rock not country.

I like it. I could totally see Cowboy Junkies covering it.
