I was shocked to see how little some people for their groceries per week. To give you a great idea how much we can spend and even have no money for.
A dozen of eggs at Walmart $3.57
8.5 pints (4 litters) of we pay as high as $ 6.25
The meat if your lucky you pay $ 6.85/ pounds
Butter is 3.98/bars, Juice is almost out of reach.
THe apples a dozen of it is $5.00 and the list goes on. For you guys who live
in United States, you are still in not too bad shape. In Canada it is a bit on the steep side,
ANd by the way the gas is the killer,it $ 3.78/gallons here means, $1.08/liter

Wow, your prices are even higher than ours! I wanted to make chili this week and needed ground beef but it was $7.99 a pound!! I got ground chicken instead for $3.99 a pound. Granted, I could have gotten fattier ground beef for a couple of dollars less but that's false economy as it seems half the volume cooks away as grease.
I remember when our gas prices were really crazy but I don't think it every got over $4 a gallon where I was living. It's so hard to make ends meet when the necessities of life are so expensive! We all keep changing our habits and altering our tastes, cutting here and substituting there, and then something else gets its price raised. Sometimes I wonder why we even bother to try to stay afloat.
I do spend more now that I have a granddaughter because I want her eating healthy foods. I buy free range eggs, which means the hens have the run of the farm. You can tell the difference in both taste and appearance and studies show they have more vitamins and less cholesterol than the eggs from chickens in captivity. I pay $5 a dozen for them. I give her lean meat which is more expensive, fresh vegetables which are more costly than canned, etc. Her mom and I don't eat as healthy because of the cost but at least we can feed her well and give her a good start.

Yes, we need to purchase what's on sale at the grocery store. Look for coupons and discounted items. Saving on gasoline is something I definitely do. Shopping for groceries where I get "fuel perks". I usually get 40 cents off the current price of gas if I plan it right.
And then I save on gas by combining all my errands to one day. The rest of the time my car sits in the driveway, except for my Christian meetings, and sometimes my daughter picks me up for those.

Our gas right now is $2.15 per gallon. I get "fuel perks" from the grocery store, so I only paid $1.75 per gallon. Since I have to purchase groceries anyway, I shop at a store that gives discounts at their gas stations. I save quite a bit each month.
Your grocery prices ARE higher than ours. Meat is very expensive here also, so I watch for discounts there, even though I don't eat a lot of meat. Usually just some chicken or turkey occasionally. I'm making stuffed peppers today with ground turkey.
