St Louis Cardinals right handed starting pitcher Lance Lynn who missed pitching in the 2016 Major League Baseball season due to Tommy John surgery in November 2015 said in an interview with a St Louis Missouri talk show he is considering entering the free agent market at the end of the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Lynn's three year, $22 million dollar contract will expire at the end of the 2017 Major League Baseball season which makes sense since it is possible that the Cardinals may decide to let him go if they fit not to bring him back to the team. Lynn also suggested that if the Cardinals want to bring him back at a salary he can live with he would return to pitch for the National League Central Division team. In a nutshell, Lynn will have to impress the Cardinals with a superb pitching performance in order to collect a huge paycheck after the end of the next baseball season after he has recovered from Tommy John surgery to repair an arm injury that sidelined him in 2016.

You are right in that Lynn has to pitch well before he can be demanding any kind of new contract.

Lance admitted that he needs to have a great season in order to stay with the Cardinals or seek employment with another team in 2018.
