Former Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Welington Castillo, 29, has signed a one year, $6 million dollar contract with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
Castillo became a free agent at the end of the 2016 Major League Baseball season when his contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks expired.
Castillo new contract with the Orioles also includes a $7 million dollar club option for the 2018 Major League Baseball season.
The Orioles wanted the services of Castillo has their starting catcher since Matt Wieters who is currently a free agent is not expected to return to the team.
The Orioles did not want to start the 2017 Major League Baseball season with Caleb Joseph as their starting catcher.
The benefit of having Castillo on their team is that he has great home run hitting power as a right handed hitter at Camden Yards.
