My dad told me I had Champagne taste but had a beer pocket book.
I know that is exactly right. I am dirt poor. But compared to a person in a 3rd world country, I am quite wealthy, but compared to an American with a PHD earning 250 thousand a year who likes to buy diamond rings that sell in excess of 50,000 dollars, then I am rock bottom poor.
Sure, I am poor. I am always broke. I always try to save a little bit just so I can blow it on something I know I can't afford.
Are you like this? I am not frugal unless I am so broke that I have no choice. That is 90 percent of the time. lol

Most of us who are broke have much of what we need. Our car runs, our house keeps us warm, we have enough food. Good enough.

@lookatdesktop Do you have a retirement pension in your country? And a basil health insurance until you die?

@marguicha There are 401K plans out there and also the bank provides IRAs which is an account reserved by the owner or the account to save for retirement, known as an individual retirement account. There is Social Security after age 65 and Medicare and Medicaid and other programs for those who have disabilities and/or very low incomes.
some people work for companies that let them put away a percentage for retirement when they either quit or retire from old age, illness or any other reason and they match their deposits dollar for dollar. It is like a form of a credit union of sorts.

I think there is more to it than that. There are people who have lots of money but for one or more reasons, waste it on things that do not build any kind of savings for the future and by living for the moment like there is no tomorrow will keep many people who are right now earning good money, ending up in the poor house one day because they were not frugal, careful or mindful of what their priorities should actually be for the long term future.

I have always wanted to know what is a 3rd world country. It seems that the word has not been used for decades. As for me, I am frugal on certain ways, but I live like royalty in others

So, in response to your comment I would like to provide this link below:

@lookatdesktop To my knowledge, for now decades there is a way of naming some countries as "developping countries. I think that this was a name that is obsolete, at least when naming some countries I have been to. My country (Chile) for instance, cannot be compared to several countries in Latin America. That´s why we have had so much immigration these last decades. We have people from China, Korea, Perú and now Haiti.
