Watching The Polar Express

The Polar Express has never been one of my favorite Christmas movies, though I do admire the work of Tom Hanks in the movie. So much of the computer graphics served no purpose other than to make the movie more impressive in 3-D. The result was a cute story made too long, IMHO. I like the story itself. Perhaps I should read the book the movie is based on. My favorite part of the story is when they get to the Naughty/Nice room and the naughty boy, whose name is Steven, keeps looping on the screen saying "I didn't do it."

The Polar express is my favorite and the book is amazing and adorable. I think it is the one Christmas movie that actually has a good moral at the end and doesn't worry about the presents.

I think the story line is wonderful, but sometimes seems to get lost in all the CG.

@DWDavis It was one of the first movies to actually have that intense of animation. Making the characters look so life like.

@DesirousDreamer The did do an excellent job with the characters. It was more the scenes in the movie that were just for the 3-D audience I could have done without, such as the ticket blowing away and finally making back to the train.

My kids just saw part of this at their dentist appointment (they didn't get to finish watching, so we'll be watching this soon). I love the book, but it took a while for me to want to watch the movie . . . I know what you mean by it being a computer graphic show-off piece. I actually think the first time I saw it (before having a family), I may have fallen asleep as it did seem a bit too long . But when we see it next with the kids, I'll probably see it differently.

My boys first saw it when they were 12 and 8, and it has been a part of our Christmas tradition ever since. They are 24 and 20 now.

too much of graphics sometimes spoil the hole film. I don't know why recently many hollywood films were totally depended on graphics i mean they think too much about graphics less about the story

It is worth watching at least once. The graphics are impressive, and the storyline is good. Some of the for 3-D only scenes get tedious when watching on a television.

I made a mistake here. At first I thought you mentioned the movie Snowpiercer (Since in Chinese translation it is The Polar Express). But you said it was filmed by Tom Hanks and then I realized you referred another movie. Then I searched the net and I thought it was a nice movie although it was in 2004. My son was born in that year and no wondered I missed this movie. I shall watch it.

I thought the conclusion was a let down. I never understood making a computer image of Tom Hanks acting exactly like Tom Hanks. Why not live action?
