Former Philadelphia Phillies infielder Jimmy Rollins, 38, on Monday has signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants according to Ken Rosenthal.
Rollins who has played in the Major Leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies (2000-2014), Los Angeles Dodgers (2015) and Chicago White Sox (2016) as a shortstop will be trying out to make the Giants roster during spring training in 2017.
Rollins was designated for assignment by the White Sox on June 10, 2016 after his batting average of .221 in 41 games played signaled the end of his playing time in the Major Leagues in 2016.
If Rollins makes the team in 2017, he will be paid a salary of $1 million dollars to serve as the second string shortstop behind Brandon Crawford.
At least Rollins will give it one more try to play baseball in the Major Leagues in 2017 even though the odds of making a comeback at age 38 are a long shot at best

@JohnRoberts I agree with you since sports stars should know when the game is over and leave while on top and not be lampooned by the Worldwide Leader Of Sports Drama.

@Deepizzaguy He should just retire and be happy with what he accomplished.
