False Testimony, True Guilt = Justice (??)

If you've been following the American news you know there's a lot of brew ha ha about fake news and also about possible hacking by the Russians and/or their influence on the American presidential election. Blah blah blah ...
Just read an article in another community and the writer insists that the Russians had nothing to do with the fake news put out by some kids in Macedonia.
Chose not to leave my comments for fear of offending the writer. They may think I'm not taking the matter seriously. So instead I'll share my thoughts here.
Not trying to discount or disregard anything the writer said about the Macedonians but the blog post sent my mind in a totally different direction. So ... to be clear ... I'm not laughing at the writer. I'm laughing at the thought the post provoked in my mind. LOL.
The post reminded me of an old movie where some bad guys had taken over a ship. They were caught by the authorities and brought to trial. There was a child on the ship and it was her testimony that convicted them.
But here's the thing. The child's testimony was false.
She was traumatized and scared that when they put on her the witness she said something just so she could get off the witness stand. However, what she said happened did not really happen! Nevertheless, based on her words, the bad guys were sent to prison.
So as they are being led away, one of the bad guys says to the other bad guy:
~ “But we didn't do that!”
The other bad guy responds:
~ “Yeah well. You know we're guilty of something!”
In other words, it's true they didn't do what the little girl said they did, but hey! ... They both know they did some stuff that was wrong!
Therefore ... even though they may have been sentenced for a crime which they did not commit, they both know they deserved to do some time in prison for the wrong that they did do.
Bottom line? Justice was served and a just punishment was rendered.
(Bear with me. I'll get to my point and application eventually.)
I said that to say this.
The writer insists that the Russians are not responsible for what the kids in Macedonia did, i.e. publishing fake news that may have influenced the outcome of the US presidential election.
Quite frankly, I think that's a stretch. But let's say that it may be true. If so, then the Macedonian kids did a very bad thing. The Russians had nothing to do with them!
** Here is the thought the blog post triggered in my mind.
Uh huh. LOL.
Well maybe the Russians didn't do that particular thing. But the Russians are probably guilty of “some 'thing'”!
It's not as if they can be trusted to NOT have done something “similarly” low-down sneaky and underhanded!
So keep shining the spotlight on the Russians anyway!
Hey! If nothing's there, then nothing's there. But if "some 'thing'" is there, then ... so what if the kids in Macedonia caused US to start looking a little closer and investigating certain "things". Look how often scientists make "discoveries" accidentally.
