depends'n whether there's a smooth surface 'hind the wallpaper 'r if'n such's already textured. i did momma's dinin' room wall which sadly t'weren't textured, but smooth whilst the rest 'f the place (the paper t'was jest'n one wall) 'd a deep texture. took me some time to 'master' a technique that matched the rest 'f the house. i used regular drywall mud 'n a box to practice'n. then there's the sandin'/clean-up.
i read from below that'cher atop the last rung 'f the ladder tended to this? please do use great caution, aint safe to be't the top. ms. @Corbin5 already gave ya great tips fer the actual paintin' part :)

Thanks for your advice. Good idea to practice with the drywall goo before using it on the wall.

My #1 tip is patience.
We just stripped wallpaper and repainted the bathroom and kitchen in a rental house, and 'slow and easy' is the best way to do it.
The hardest part came after removing the first layer of wallpaper...it actually peels and leaves the 'glued' section behind, which you can then spray with a solvent and peel off...but you have to let the solvent 'work' for about 15 minutes, and only work a small section at a time.
Using a 'textured' paint will help hide some small spots if you don't get quite all the glue off; if you want to use regular paint, you'll be doing a bit of scrubbing to get the wall smooth.

Definitely a good tip! I've done the first wall already and it is slow going. It's no fun standing on the top rung of a ladder and craning your neck to scrape off the high stuff.
