Day 107
Proverbs 14:31
Proverbs 14:31 He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he that honors him hath mercy on the poor.
If ever there was a theme to this world we live in it’s that the rich are always lording it over the poor and making their plight worse than it should be. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
From observation, Solomon showed that when those who were wealthy brought oppression to poor people, they incurred more trouble on themselves because God was the Father of the poor, fatherless, and widow. He also showed that God blessed and honored all those who helped the poor.
Since history began, man has not changed. The good news is that neither has God. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God made provision for the poor and needy, and when people give to those in need, God notices and blesses them and sees to it all their needs and desires are also met.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (KJV)
James 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.
Proverbs 21:13 Whoso stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
When the day comes when Jesus returns for his church, his bride, he will divide the people. He will place those who helped those in need on his right and those who looked only to their needs on his left. Those on his right will receive eternal life. Those on his left eternal damnation.
Matthew 25:31-46
Works are not a contingent of salvation. However, works are a byproduct of salvation. Salvation is free to every person, and once you receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you will want to help those who are unable to take care of their own needs. When you do, God will reward you for your faithfulness in the body of Christ.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV)
James 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.
You cannot have one without the other in the kingdom of God. You must show kindness and help those in need. When you do, God will bless you.
Let’s pray: Father, help me be a blessing to those in need, giving as I am able. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
