Jon Heyman reports the news on Thursday the Washington Nationals along with the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Atlanta Braves are interested in signing unrestricted free agent catcher Matt Weiters. Weiters, 30. became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2016 Major League Baseball season when the Baltimore Orioles did not offer him a one year, $17.2 million dollar qualifying offer to keep him for at least one more season. Weiters who is a switch hitter is looking for a team that will grant him a chance to be a starting catcher since his role with the Orioles in 2016 was that of a second string catcher with the American League East team.

The Nationals need a catcher since they let Ramos walk. He definitely would start in Atlanta.

We shall see which team will get Weiters before the start of the 2017 baseball season.
