Staying in on New Year's Eve.

United Kingdom
December 31, 2016 10:27am CST
Anyone else? We're more than happy to stay in. With 3 children we rarely get a night out together any more but to be honest I wouldn't change it! I used to enjoy New Year's Eve being out and soaking up the atmosphere (and the alcohol) but now I'd much prefer to snuggle up and watch a film with the kids. We'll raise a glass to the new year though and watch the fireworks through the patio door. Happy New Year!

I don't know what my son will do but I am not going anywhere. There are a lot of drunk and crazy people running around on new year's eve. It is safer at home. I can see fireworks out my window. They are illegal but there are a lot of them all around.

@akalinus In general, fireworks are not illegal in Germany. Much, much money will be blown into the air which could be spent otherwise and more sensibly if you ask me. Yet, some cities have forbidden fireworks in the centres where old half-timbered houses stand. They can easily catch fire and the streets are often so narrow and crooked that the fire brigade has problems getting through. This is certainly a European problem and not an American one. :-)

@MALUSE I remember a kid named Ernie. He blew part of his hand off while holding fireworks. They went off prematurely. I really did not like my kids playing with them but I allowed sparklers under supervision.

They're illegal where you are? I think there's a law here about when fireworks can be sold but nothing about when they can be let off, other than no loud noises during quiet night hours I think.

We might be out for a bit during the day, but at night, we will most likely stay in as well. We have 2 kids too - it'll be nice to just be relaxing at home - cozy and safe. Yah, before family, we used to go out with friends to some bar - eh, but no desire for that now. Happy New Year to you and your family!

We've had the in-laws round today so at least we've had a little celebration I guess.

My husband and I are also staying at home. There are enough people in the streets in Germany with fireworks so that we can watch the spectacle.

I stayed home last night. Just watched the fireworks display and had a simple dinner with my family. I wish you & your family an abundant year ahead!

Like you, we're staying in. We've got three young kids and it's just not easy to find someone to babysit and go out. Besides, kids or no kids, we're not the party types.

We will be staying home as well with our children. =) We will most likely go to bed before the New Year like we usually do.

I use to love those times when my children were little. We always spent New Year's Eve with them. Enjoy your evening together. Happy New Year to you and your family.
