El Teide

El Teide is the name which receives a volcano located on the island of Tenerife (Canarian Islands - Spain). It's known as the highest mountain of Spain. 3718 metres high above sea level and 7500 metres from the ocean floor, el Teide is considered the third mayor volcano on Earth after Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. The National Park of El Teide, a big crater surrounding the volcano with a diameter of 60 km, has been declared Patrimony of the Humanity by Unesco in 2007. The volcano is still activ and from its top you still the light hume, the fumorales, coming out. The last eruption took place the 18th of november, 1909. Actually, el Teide is a turistical atraction. Excursions to its cráter is organized by different agencies bringing turists up to the volcano, where you even can go up with the cableway, which usually works from spring to autumn. In winter, the cableway rests closed because of the wind and the snow. During the cold season on Tenerife, you can go for a walk on the beach by 18ºC meanwhile you can see the snow on the top of the Teide. Its peak can be seen from almost all parts of the island.
