The best way to convert into an excellent writer, apart from reading and practising, is learning from the excellent writers. They also had to start as you but reached it, because they didn't gave up. So listen to the experts. Besides, you can do an online research how to improve your writing skills. If you try, you will see that you will find plenty of free stuff to use to improve.

I found this topic intriguing and like @martypaarty want to understand it too. I did see the change from professional to excellent writer @Meramar and that is more appetizing. I don't really want to be a professional or expert writer but a writer with excellent skills now that is more appealing in my mind. You? @Nowrin

In order to write well, you need to read a lot, you need to see other writer's work. Eventually you have to pick up a genre or a writing style, create 20 odd rough drafts, am sure when you will be writing your 21st, you will get your style.
